President’s Report - Adrian McClelland:

Isn’t there a nice feel around Kyneton International at the moment. Yes, I know that winter has reared it’s ugly head, not that we don’t need the water. But weather aside, things seem to be cruising along pretty nicely.

There have been a few enquiries for flying training, some of it to do with other operators having some problems at this time. But it’s probably our turn to have things happen in our favour, and be looked after by the Flying School god! We are still to have our meeting with Maryborough to work out their flying training requirements.

The SAAA Chapter 20 contingent had an informal bar-b-que a week or so ago. It was well attended by Ch20 and a couple of KAC members, friends, partners, etc. It’s great to see this social activity happening at Kyneton, with both local and some visiting aircraft. I know we are all busy people but this is the sort of thing we need more of at the airfield.

A little bird tells me that we have a new aircraft owner in the club, and this also means that a certain Victa Airtourer that was destined for a life in Queensland is now going to stay at Kyneton. Congratulations, Neil!

That’s about it for this newsletter.
Good flying, happy landings and stay safe.

Cheers, Adrian.

CFI’s Report – Michael Bourke:

Not a lot to write about at this stage, except to say that we are back in biz, ready willing and able to get on with the flying school operation. VH-ABW was flown to Horsham recently and has a clean bill of health, with the engine further extended, and the real possibility of further extensions providing it continues to come up to spec. Joanne and I have cleaned, polished etc ABW and would really appreciate it if those that fly could assist us in keeping it tidy. Simply wiping leading edges to remove bugs etc with a damp cloth after flight would be great.
Have started training with two new students from the former Pegasus operation, Ben Strange and Aaron Kelly as well as my partner in crime Stuart. We have also had three enquiries from Ballarat Aero Club members, resulting in one AFR and possibly completing a GFPT for another. Ballarat at this time is not able to offer training to it's members. I am also doing some controlled airspace flying with a Maryborough pilot and aircraft owner.

On the odd occasion it has come to my notice that not all pilots are signing off the daily inspection section of the maintenance release before flight. This must be done prior to the first flight each day, no exceptions!

Extract from Civil Aviation Advisory Publication CAAP No: 43-1(1)
Maintenance releases:
Subregulation 133 (1) (c) of the CARs directs that an aircraft shall not commence flight unless there is in force a valid maintenance release covering the period of that proposed flight. This is to ensure that the pilot-in-command is made aware that all required maintenance on the aircraft has been completed and certified, that no maintenance is scheduled to take place during the proposed flight and of all defects in the aircraft.

All in all activity from within the KAC is very quiet. Hopefully this will change with the passing of winter when we move into better flying conditions.
Cheers,
Mike

Mike can be contacted on 0407-721908 or email at bourke@netcon.net.au as well as the clubhouse phone number at times.

VH-ABW Report – Joanne Buckley:

On Saturday, 29th May it came to our attention that ABW's transponder is U/S.
The maintenance release and folder should clearly show when it’s been fixed, so when flying in the interim please:
· set transponder to the ON position and not ALT
· stay clear of controlled air space
until the transponder has been fixed.

Thanks, Joanne.

Shortwing Piper Fly-In – John Gleeson:

Short Wings Down Under
Tocumwal, March 27/28:

The weekend of March 27/28, 2004 saw the largest gathering of Short Wing Pipers in Australia, if not the Southern Hemisphere, with a total of twenty six Short Wings which flew in. Attending was one of only two original Pacers in Australia. Australia only has around 80 Short Wing Pipers and of these only about 60 are presently airworthy. There were two aircraft from Caboolture, north of Brisbane, over 600 NM away, contesting the longest distance flown to the meeting. It was eventually awarded to VH-FFS because they had to taxi 30 feet further north!

Ladies Choice Award - Most Admired Short Wing: VH-NLA – John Gleeson.
A beautiful still Sunday morning saw around a dozen aircraft flying in loose formation over the Murray river to Corowa about 25 mins away. The attraction here was the chance to look over a huge ex US Navy Grumman Albatross.Later in the day, a small group flew to the well known Brown Brothers Wineryat Milawa for Sunday lunch on the way home.
